Services

Training
I have years of experience with fundamental obedience, impulse control and behavioral modification such as resource guarding, dog & cat relations, reactivity and many others. For information about my Older Puppy Basics classes at Jeffrey's Natural Pet Foods, click here.
Coaching
During our coaching sessions, we'll work together to form a step-by-step plan that works for you and your lifestyle.
Day Training
This is a great option for owners who wish to have their dogs trained away from them, but who don't necessarily want to do a full board-and-train. Perfect for behaviors like obedience, loose leash walking, location targeting or for addressing reactivity.
Walking
I offer exclusive, active, small (3 dogs max.) group walks. These are primarily on-leash with a bit of off-leash practice as well. Ideal for those dogs who don't do well in larger group settings but who still need to get out an exercise!
My Story

Hi, I'm Meg Johnson and this is my GSP, Jelmore, who I rescued in December 2024.
Founded in 2014, Meg Johnson Dog Services began with a passion for enhancing dog training experiences based on robust education from the Academy For Dog Trainers (I graduated in 2015). With thirteen years experience, I am dedicated to helping dogs and owners form lasting, positive connections through effective force-free training methods.
Since dog training is a completely unregulated industry, I pride myself on being able to provide my clients with full transparency: If your dog gets it right, we're going to present a reinforcer so we get more of that. If your dog gets it wrong, we're going to remove a resource so we get less of that. As far as I know, science has not revealed to us a more humane way to train animals.

What My Clients Say
My clients love the transformative experience I provide for their dogs and themselves.

Meg has been terrific with my six year old Coton, Olive. Olive's reactivity has improved quite notably under Meg's advice and instruction, and it's much more enjoyable to walk Olive now as a result. I have found Meg's advice to be extremely helpful; she is practical as well as knowledgeable, so it's easy to put her suggestions to use. I would highly recommend Meg for anyone who wants to see a noticeable improvement in their dog's behavior!

When I first reached out to Meg, I was at my wits' end. Penelope, my sweet pandemic pup, was struggling with reactivity, and after working with four other trainers, I felt hopeless that things could ever improve. Each attempt left me more discouraged, and Penelope more misunderstood.
From the very first session, Meg was different. She didn't just "train" Penelope - she connected with her. She became Penelope's best friend, someone she trusted and felt safe with. That bond was the turning point. Meg's patience, experience, expertise, and genuine love for dogs have helped Penelope blossom in ways I never thought possible.
Thanks to Meg, my anxious and reactive pup has transformed into a confident, joyful companion. I can finally see a light at the end of what felt like a very long tunnel, and I credit it entirely to Meg's incredible skill and dedication. While there is always continuing work I feel confident Meg will be there for Penelope.
I cannot recommend Meg enough. If you're looking for someone who will not only teach your dog, but also truly understand them, Meg is that rare trainer who changes everything. She gave Penelope her best chance - and gave me back my hope.

Meg is the best dog trainer I ever could've hoped for. I got so lucky meeting her. When I adopted Lexi she'd been a stray dog with extreme anxiety (she is, by definition, neurotic). She also had issues with resource guarding and leash aggression. I was SO desperate for help with Lexi, and Meg helped me transform my relationship with her, our training together, and Lexi's confidence and manners as well.
Lexi started out unable to walk down the street past anything (trash can, leaf blowing in the wind, Lawn chair, another person/dog etc.) without completely losing her mind or freezing up and trying to drag us back inside in terror. More importantly, I had no real existing dog training knowledge beyond giving treats for tricks. I was completely at my wits' end and felt like I was failing Lexi and she needed someone stronger than me to protect her.
We did several weeks of private training. Meg taught me to pay attention to Lexi's body language and behavior to try to see how she might be feeling or what she might need. She taught ME how to set Lexi up for success by not putting her in situations where she might be able to make a "mistake". Later, she also talked me through crate training and made super helpful recommendations when Lexi was having trouble getting over that final hurdle of house breaking her because her anxiety sometimes made it harder for her to control/hold her pee. Meg taught me the importance of and helped me develop a reliable recall with Lexi. And she explained the importance of giving Lexi "jobs"/activities and exercise to continue boosting her self confidence (and running down her painfully endless energy). Meg literally transformed my neurotic rescue dog into a functional and brave doggo and it truly strengthened my bond with Lexi.
Meg communicates well and has always been very responsive. She is truly so in tune with what dogs feel and need. I enthusiastically and whole heartedly recommend her for all your training needs.
